Multi Agency Road Safety Event

Into our third year South Dartmoor Community College 6th form students welcomed and took part in a multi-agency road safety event, this week hearing from Vision Zero South West, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service, Devon Air Ambulance, and Devon & Cornwall Police on how to stay safe this summer focusing on road safety and saving lives. 

The sessions covered a range of important topics, including:- 

✅ How to respond safely when first on the scene of an incident and contact the emergency services effectively. 

✅ The dangers of speeding, mobile phone use, drink and drug driving, and how these can impact reaction times and stopping distances. 

✅ The influence of peer pressure, attitudes, and decision-making when behind the wheel. 

✅ Water safety, identifying hazards, and the safe use of lifesaving equipment such as throw lines. 

✅ Recognising cardiac arrest, delivering CPR, and understanding the vital role of defibrillators in saving lives.

The aim is to build relationships with newer road users and empower them to feel comfortable and understand risky activities prior to getting into a vehicle and the impact this could have.
